GENE GOULD AND THE THEME OF ANGELS
For quite some time after painting the Angel In Red, it would seem that Gene Gould's creative mind often turned back towards the idea of angels. Of course, no one knows what thoughts may run through an artist's mind, but... let's imagine...

Who but a hard-working angel could preserve in cans, for future use, beautiful rays of sunshine? Gene Gould depicted precisely this idea in a very small painting entitled "Carpe Diem" Oil on canvas (8" x 6"), 2002

Now... If an angel were painting, wouldn't his artistic creations become real? This large painting by Gene Gould, entitled "Painting Angel", seems at first somewhat difficult for most of us to understand. However, as with so many of Gene Gould's artworks, if you keep looking at it, it will grow on you...

| That said, Gene Gould never turned totally away from classic artwork themes such as that of the angel intervening to prevent Abraham from killing his son. Among others, Rembrandt made a famous painting, "The Angel Hinders the Offering of Isaac", on that subject. Gene Gould entitled his own fascinating version, which he unfortunately never fully finished, "Sacrifice": |
